Science is dominated by male interests (and the normalisation of the male subject), so the development of weight-loss medicine is the projection of a male interest in thinner women (given women are the prime focus of weight loss advice & services).
For some patients there are (very) good medical reason to lose weight, but generally this looks like a renewed attempt to make women take up less space in the world.
We should resist! Body positivity was a major step forward!
There have been too many cases of women who are not medically obese taking it to 'look better'.
And doctors are still too focused on weight to follow up other symptoms.
Not just my own experiences but plenty of others too.
The reason I have been finally getting diagnosed with so many 'new' health issues in the last few years is that I finally reached the age when doctors take less notice of my weight and sometimes actually listen to me.
I might have had a much better life if they'd been diagnosed earlier.
And the irony? The original huge weight gain was due to treatments for endometriosis, ie caused by doctors not from overeating, and the joint damage the drugs caused then led to me exercising less.
