Tunnel vision!

Step inside the tunnels below our Paranal Observatory in #Chile. They connect the Unit Telescopes, which comprise the Very Large Telescope (VLT), to the control building where the VLT and its instruments are operated by observing teams.

And no worries: despite the eerie, sci-fi atmosphere, no drooling, man-eating aliens are roaming there, just astronomers and engineers 😉

Tunnel vision
This is a black-and-white portrait image that looks down a hallway. A man’s figure stands at the end wearing a hard hat and black clothes, his body faces forward and his head points to the right. A small sign on the wall at the end of the hall reads “UT1 Antu”. The ceiling has four pipes, two large and two smaller. The left-hand wall is covered by six horizontal metal structures. The right-hand wall is more bare with just two horizonal metal structures. The floor of the hall is reflective like the surface of water, mirroring the man and overhead lights.
