#Canada’s food price fights are about to get messier

“…the real sources of food price inflation are beyond the control of any prime minister or politician in Canada: climate change, supply chain disruptions and US trade policy.

Beef, for example, isn’t expensive because of climate policy.

If anything, it’s expensive in large part because of the absence of climate policy and the resulting droughts…”

Once known as the “Monroe Room,” because it was where President James Monroe worked, it also has been the setting for major wartime addresses by presidents George W. Bush & Joseph R. Biden Jr.

… #Trump made his intentions for the #TreatyRoom known during a tour that he gave on Feb. 6 for a small group of people that included some members of the Committee for the #Preservation of the #WhiteHouse & the Commission of Fine Arts.

#Canada’s courts can’t save the Charter from politics. Canadians can. By Max Fawcett

“As criminal & constitutional lawyer Nader Hasan wrote in a recent op-ed, “constitutional rights are not supposed to be optional.

Their purpose is to protect the people from govt abuse & overreach.

Putting the govt in charge of deciding when rights get to be overridden is asking the fox to guard the henhouse.”

https://www.nationalobserver.com/2026/03/25/opinion/notwithstanding-clause-canada-politics-voters

Canada's National Observer

The courts can’t save the Charter from politics. Canadians can.

The Supreme Court of Canada gets to decide whether Quebec's Bill 21 is constitutional — and how far provincial legislatures can go in overriding our constitutional rights. In the end, though, the fight has to be won by voters, not courts.

#Canada’s Supreme Court to rule on #Quebec’s Bill 21.

“Most cases at the top court are heard on a single day. Two days is a long hearing.

Bill 21 will be heard over four days. It begins today.

The constitutional challenge to Bill 21 is one of the most important cases in Charter history – and the ruling could alter the essence of our federalism for generations to come.”
