Branko Milanovic (analyst of global inequality) thinks the danger of AI & associated technologies is they promote a (global) society of four classes:
A surplus population (humans Big Tech think have no value);
A service sector working class (precariously serving on the residual work as yet unautomated);
A 'homoploutic' class, the rich (capital owning) professionals, supporting....
The Tech Lords (we know who they are already).
A grim projection indeed!
@ChrisMayLA6 The problem is that the supposed surplus population may not just be of no intrinsic value to Big Tach. It may actually be seen as a nuisance or even a threat - for example by competing for supplies of electricity and water required for #datacentres . Hence one can expect demands to disenfranchise and/or displace it - already evident in the #us and elsewhere. Forcible displacement can shade - under certain conditions - into something resembling actual #genocide .
