@ChrisMayLA6 Absolutely "b": Thatcher and her cronies converted state assets into cash; they threw a few pennies to the masses ("If you see Sid...") while transferring ownership & responsibility to financiers who devised ingenious ways of selling the new businesses on by means of borrowed money mortgaged against the businesses... Ponzi scheme? Last one to buy the remnants of the privatised industries is likely, I suggest, to get more burnt than their fingers.

It's b, noting that she used national capital assets (north sea oil & gas, and privatising nationalised industries) to buy tax cuts & pump up the City of London, thereby transferring public wealth to a minority of already wealthy private individuals.

But the problem with Thatcherism is eventually you run out of public assets; leading to massive inequality and an exhausted economy lacking the liquidity to develop & expand- which is where we are today.

@ChrisMayLA6 She did close down the coal industry. We we now see as having done "the right deed for the wrong reason".

c. Thatcher was elevated to power by a cabal of wealthy asset strippers who saw an opportunity to take advantage of a gullible politician and take control of the UK's national infrastructure and assets.

@ChrisMayLA6 There seems to be a fairly popular view that in the 1970s the trade unions somehow got out of hand and dragged the country down. This even among people who would criticise the subsequent deindustrialisation and privatisation of the 1980s as mistakes.

I can vaguely remember the power cuts in the 70s, but my political memory really begins with the arrival of the Thatcher government.

Maybe an educational topic you could post on would be what happened to the economy in the 1970s?...
