There are big questions raised here. Automation is just one aspect of developments that are making the world more complex, the detail harder to fully understand and manage - and hence requiring higher levels of skills and experience.

It's an old process, previously dealt with by raising the school leaving age, extending higher education, etc - nor is it a 'capitalism' issue, as evidenced by the pace at which innovation in China surpasses the West now.

It seems to me a pretty automatic effect of the simple accumulation of human knowledge over millennia, independent of any particular economic or social formation.
