I always thought growing tomatoes need a lot of space for the roots to grow.
Many years ago tried to grow tomatoes on this balcony using 50L bags, but failed every time.
Not because it was hard, or didn't have enough space or sunshine, but mainly because I didn't water them properly.
This summer, I started an aggressive plan to grow as much as I can in my small area on the balcony.
Using pots as small as 2L, I planted 6 different tomato types. From cherry, to cocktail upto beefsteak.
For watering, I use 1L milk bottles, with a tiny hole at the bottom, it takes between 4-8 minutes to empty 1L , and I do it 3-4 times a day for the pots with multiple plants or 1-2 times on those with only one plants. Other plants are placed in 5L water bottles turned into self-catering flower pots. Providing constant access to water, even during the extreme heat of the sun in the french Riviera.
The results have been great so far. And now I even see the first beefsteak turning red.
