…Alana Menendez, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Virginia’s Department of Environmental Sciences, analyzed light-reflectance data from a European satellite called Sentinel-2. The satellite captures clear images of the #ReflectingPool several times a month, & the data it produces can be used to estimate the presence of chlorophyll-a, a pigment found in algae.
Donald Trump's only interest was to paint the Reflecting Pool's 100 yr-old bottom, despite his repeated claims that its water quality was his chief concern.
That's been a problem for over a decade. Obama spent some $34 million to refurbish the pool, but the fix didn't hold.
The pool gets some of its water from the Tidal Basin, that is, from the notoriously dirty Potomac. Old pipes and filters have never kept up. The algae bloom is a consequence of Trump's legendary incompetence.

… #Trump has not publicly commented on the #ReflectingPool algae problem. On Monday, he posted that he would host a Trump rally on July 4 “with the backdrop of the Lincoln Memorial and surrounding the beautifully new Reflecting Pool.”
