A combination of AI slop content and recommendation algorithms that don't serve the users but the platform is a killer blow.

One massive issue with AI slop is that you can generate it in such massive amounts that it can drown human creation under it.

That's why human curation is now even more important than before.

Share things you enjoy, write about them, tell others why they are good.

In the era of AI slop, human curation is even more important

Last year, I wrote about the importance of human curation in a world where platforms use recommendation algorithms to choose what emotion sparking content you see. With the ever increasing amount of AI slop pushed into the web to drown all good human crafted art, writing and media, it’s even more important to participate in sharing your genuine opinions.

A couple of weeks ago, I ran into a discussion in Mastodon about whether seeking growth for your projects is a good move or "a wacky, fediverse-only take".

I think it's a perfectly valid strategy for open source, hobby or commercial projects. Not everything needs to seek growth: often the right thing to do is to build things to serve a small group of users — even if that is just one person.

Not seeking growth is a perfectly valid strategy

I’m commentating on a discussion I witnessed in Mastodon where someone strongly dismissed the idea or desire to build software without wanting to keep growing their userbase. I think it’s not just a valid strategy but often the right one.
