Jeff Bezos went on TV to whine about Zohran Mamdani to stop demonizing billionaires and the very next day Mayor Mamdani responded by forcing Amazon to pay $9M in fines accrued by Amazon delivery trucks for illegally idling and blocking NYC traffic.
This is what happens when you elect a mayor for the people, not the corporations. We need more of this.
Yes, I think the thing that scares the extreme right wing in the USA, which is a large percentage of the US population (by European standards), is the possibility that Mamdami might be a roaring success as mayor of New York and thus give the reputations of both Muslims and democratic socialists a huge boost in US public opinion!
@QasimRashid you need a President for the people. and a Congress too.
@QasimRashid
#Amazon #combustion #vans in England are being replaced by #electric ones, I think as a schedule. I suspect the #London ones are all electric though. I'd think there is no less reason why that would be sensible in #NYC.
The ghost of Charles Dickens smiles and nods his approval.
@QasimRashid
$9 million for a company the size of Amazon is less than the change you'd find in the sofa cushions on Bezos' yacht.
@QasimRashid Equity at last!

Jeff Bezos thinks people are
‘vilifying the rich.’ Bro, you're
one of the richest people
on earth and 1/3 of your
warehouse workers rely on
government assistance for
basic needs like food and rent.
You ARE the villain.
I wish I could've voted for him. I love this.
@QasimRashid Curiously fining Amazon delivery trucks reminds me of a story I heard about the Stoneman Meadow Riots in Yosmite in 1970. There was a guy - Berkeley grad student as I recall - who was working as a ranger over the summer. At one point the FBI parked cars illegally as part of a crackdown. He grinned and said, "I've never written a ticket before!" and proceeded to ticket the FBI. No idea of how accurate it is, but that is funny.

@QasimRashid Jeff Bezos won’t care much. Since Amazon delivery drivers are "independent contractors” and own their own vans, they'll be the ones who pay the fines. Unfortunately Mamdani is penalizing people who are already heavily exploited.
This might cause Bezos problems IF these drivers are driven out of business and he has to find new ways to cover the last mile. And it'll marginally help traffic flow. But it's not the anti-Amazon masterstroke many will assume it is.
