Gregg Araki started making films in the early 1990s, often with a budget that today would cover about six weeks of rent in Los Angeles. So an intimacy coordinator to oversee sex scenes wasn’t really feasible. But Araki used one in his latest work “I Want Your Sex,” a provocative and funny movie about an inappropriate sexual relationship between a boss and employee that features what the director calls “HBO nudity (no genitalia, but plenty of boobs and butts).” How the inclusion of an intimacy coordinator may have influenced Araki’s process, from @IndieWire:

Gregg Araki Made His Reputation Directing Sex in the Age Before Intimacy Coordinators — Did Using One Change His Process?

The director of 'The Doom Generation' and 'Nowhere' used a coordinator for the first time on 'I Want Your Sex' with Olivia Wilde and Cooper Hoffman.

Christopher Nolan’s new film “The Odyssey” is a box-office hit. But, oh, how the script is lacking depth, the food looks horrible — and there aren’t even any sex scenes! At least, that’s the view of Emily Wilson, a classics scholar and translator at the University of Pennsylvania, who came away disappointed with the Oscar-winning director’s adaptation. I saw The Odyssey. It Was…Meh…

So I saw The Odyssey earlier this week, & while the movie is not the worst I have ever seen, it definitely was not spectacular overall.

My dissapointed face in front of what should have been an awesome movie.

If I had not read The Odyssey when I was younger (I believe it was required reading for school), I would have been clueless as to what exactly was happening throughout most of the movie.

What makes this movie disappointing is not the acting, the special effects, the cinematography, the music, or even the fashion of the main characters. All of those were top notch!

What made the movie so unsatisfying was the layout of the story itself. The movie boasted so much talent all around, & the one thing that was supposed to make it great—the story or the portrayal of events—ended up bringing the whole movie down.

A good story is foundational to any movie, play, show, etcetera. A movie without a good story is like a burger sandwich without the burger! 🍔 If it were not for the ending of the movie and the parts about the Trojan Horse, I would have written off the entire thing as a colossal waste of time.

Hopefully, if someone decides to film The Odyssey for the umpteenth time, they will include the parts that show off Odysseus’s cleverness (it was a travesty to leave out the dialogue between him & the giant!).
