"Is that a honeybee in your pants or are you just happy to see me?" 🤣
@briankrebs I had a bee or wasp fly up my slacks once and sting my thigh. There I was, on a street corner with moderate foot traffic, slapping my leg to either scare it away or kill it.
I killed it, which is why I cannot say if it was a bee or wasp. That critter was dead and mashed. I canceled my plans and went home, as I had never been stung before and was concerned I might have an allergic reaction. Fortunately, no.
P.S.: It was Earth Day.
@briankrebs
And always mash your work gloves before putting them on, lest a spider or other bitey critter get in in them.

🤣 🤣 🤣
@briankrebs The plot thickens.

>> note to self: don't leave gardening pants outside.
Note to self: resist urge to undress outside?
@newbery usually by the time i'm done gardening my clothes are filthy and drenched with sweat, but sometimes I'm just hot, it's time to come in and want to leave any critters crawling around my socks/pants, etc outside.
@newbery i should add that we live in the middle of nowhere, so technically i can run around naked in the yard and nobody will ever know. In fact, I did just that when we first moved in. Just because I could lol.
@briankrebs
Note to self: do NOT show up unannounced at Krebs' place

Mind if I steal this for my own household?
@briankrebs
Bees are supposed to go in your bonnet.
@briankrebs just gonna leave all these, "I'm being bugged" jokes just sitting here?
@briankrebs it knew you had a honeypot somewhere.
@Netraven haha. we have several people living nearby who keep rather large honeybee hives. They just come snack at our place b/c we have more flowers.
@briankrebs Sounds bad, though perhaps not as bad as the time one flew into my mouth while I was bicycling and stung my tongue…
@SteveBellovin @briankrebs Had a wasp fly up one leg of my trousers. Stung multiple times. Apparently I did a funny dance too.
@hal_pomeranz @SteveBellovin @briankrebs
hornets & wasps are the absolute worst except 4
was paragliding at a nat forest launch near paisely oregon in 2004
started to park @trailhead after landing and packing up when multiple big(2") hornets starting hitting the lexus from all sides near the Dumpster we parked in from of
far as we know?
first sighting of murder hornets in N America(saw them b4 in SE Asia)
still cant convince anyone they were there lol
we were NOT getting out of the car
@hal_pomeranz @SteveBellovin I got over 50 yellow jacket stings last summer, and quite a few from baldfaced hornets. When I have to do risky gardening or work where the aggressive bees are, I now don the bee suit. Last year, after getting stung probably a dozen times by wasps in a few seconds, I was doing everything they tell you not to do when a swarm comes: Scream and flail my arms while running away and falling down repeatedly. The thing about bald-faced hornets is they can sting you over and over, and even when they're caught up in your clothing and can't sting you properly they will start chewing on you.
@briankrebs I can personally attest that everything you say here is true. ☹️
@briankrebs @hal_pomeranz @SteveBellovin You might talk to an allergist if you got swelling - when I had a bee sting swell up, I was told that there was an accumulation effect, and now carry an epipen, because it's better to have one on hand than $100 in the bank.
@briankrebs Yikes! Our last serious sting was in the house, putting away bathtowels we’d just taken off the clothesline. Didn’t realize we’d folded a bee into one, until it painfully let us know. Thanks for reminding us we need to snap/shake laundry before folding. @hal_pomeranz @SteveBellovin
@bikemonterey @hal_pomeranz @SteveBellovin OMG clothes dried in the sun smell amazing (clean clothes duh). But what's with the big empty tire? Looks like a giant mosquito magnet!
@briankrebs Yes to Mother Nature, the only fabric freshener we’ve ever used. Drying laundry is our favorite household task. https://bikemonterey.org/educating-neighborhoods-on-the-beauty-of-clotheslines.html
As for that tractor tire, it was a gift from our Carmel Valley organic farming (since 1940s) friends Russell and Karen Wolter. It served as sandbox frame for our daughter. On day of this photo, we were rolling it to a neighbor’s for reuse in same manner.
Excerpt about that tire is from our 1996 essay “Why Live Simply."
